In summary the initiative has the following general objectives: ▪ establish an integrated body of specialized MPI laboratories to benefit from synergetic effects ▪ attract outstanding students to the field of Laves phases

▪ develop a materials reference basis

▪ examine presently used concepts carefully to describe structure, bonding and properties of Laves phases

▪ enhance or develop new concepts to predict structure, bonding and properties of Laves phases

▪ integrate international experts
